The americans have landed, and the canadians are still en-route, with an expected landing of 11:30 in Toronto.
We hope that all of your kids had a great time on the program, and that you enjoyed hearing updates periodically. Jerusalem
Shalom!
The kvutzah came back from their free weekend rested and ready to continue their program. They have been in Jersualem for the past few days. The first day, they toured the Old City, including the Kotel (Western Wall). It was an emotional experience for the kids and allowed them to connect spiritually to the land. Afterwards, they spent the evening at a local shuk (flea market).
The next day, the kvutzah toured the tunnels underneath the Kotel, and were able to see many archeological excavations. They also toured the Southern tunnels. Afterwards, the kvutzah went to the City of David (http://www.cityofdavid.org.il/index.html), the remnants of the first settlements in Jerusalem.
The kvutzah also visited Yad Vashem, Jerusalem's Holocaust museum. It was very taxing on the kids, but they got a lot out of it. Afterwards, they went to Har Herzl, a hilltop national cemetary, named after Theodore Herzl. The kvutzah saw an interactive movie, learning about the history of the area, and then visited Herzl's grave, as well as Rabin's grave. Afterwards, the saw the military cemetary which is also at Har Herzl.
Today, the kvutzah is continuing to Ein Gedi, to start their desert tiyul (hiking trip) through the mountains there.

Free Weekend
Hello,
This is weekend is the free weekend for the kids, so they are currently off with their friends and family. After the free weekend, the kvutzah will travel down to Jerusalem.

Time in Tel-Aviv
Hello!
The kvutzah finished their coexistence seminar in Barta. The kvutzah learned a little arabic, and also learned about different aspects of Israeli society.
Today, the kvutzah went to Tel-Aviv, and toured the city. They stopped at two flea markets, and were able to pick up a few souverniers. Tomorrow, the kvutzah will continue to tour Tel-Aviv.

The Kibbutz Seminar and Coexistence Seminar
Shalom,
On Friday, the Yedid kvutzah had a restful Shabbat at Mishmar Ha'Emek, a kibbutz in the North of Israel. The kvutzah planned their own Kabbalat Shabbat and spent the day together.
On Saturday, the kvutzah started their kibbutz seminar, where they toured Kibbutz Mishmar Ha'Emek and talked about the formation and relevancy of kibbutzim in modern times. On Sunday, this seminar continuted with a meeting with Yaniv Sagi, the head of Kibbutz Ein-Hashofet, and the next central shaliach for Hashomer Hatzair NY. Yaniv told the kvutzah about the kibbutz crisis, and how many kibbutzim are becoming privatized. Later that day, the kvutzah travelled to Kibbutz Pelech, a kibbutz of many communot (individual kvutzot) living in one community.
On Monday, the kvutzah started their coexistence seminar at Givat Havivah. Lydia, a Givat Havivah educator, gave the kvutzah a lecture of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, its history and its manifestations. The kvutzah toured Barta, a town split by the Green Line. There, the kvutzah met with students from the local junior high school, talked and socialized with them, and learned about the reality of their life. The kvutzah is learning a lot about the different realms of Israeli life, and is enjoying experiencing different cultures.

The Yedid kvutzah is finishing up their time at Kibbutz Cholit. For the past few days, they have been participating in the Hashomer Hatzair World Movement convention on pedagogy. The kvutzah overcame a large language barrier, but in the end were able to discuss and decide alongside the European Movement. Two of them, Rachel K and Ariel B, were members of the Maskirut for this Veida, the leading body of the convention. Also, Ella S represented the North American opinion and presented the HHNA viewpoints.
Today, the kvutzah split from the European movement for the rest of Yedid. The kvutzah participated in a Hadracha training seminar, a leadership program, which they found very interesting and relevant. Everyone is currently in high spirits, and excited for the next few weeks.
Tonight, the kvutzah will remain at Cholit, and tomorrow morning the kvutzah will move north to Kibbutz Mishmar Ha'Emek, to start a Kibbutz seminar.

Yedid is in high spirits and resting at Kibbutz Cholit. On Friday, the kvutzah spent a relaxed day at the pool, followed by a Kabbalat Shabbat with the world movement. Each country was able to take part in the Kabbalat Shabbat and share their country's culture and traditions.
On Saturday, Yedid went to the Kinneret, the Sea of Gallilee. In the morning, they visited the local water park, and in the afternoon, toured the Kinneret Training Farm. The kvutzah was able to learn abotu the early chalutzim, pioneers, from the Second Aliyah, and saw how Israel was settled. That evening, they participated in a peula about Hagshama, actualization, and discussed the relevance of living out one's beliefs.
Today, the kvutzah went to Givat Haviva, an educational institution founded by Hashomer Hatzair, dedicated to peace and holocoust studies. At Givat Haviva, the kvutzah saw the archives of Hashomer Hatzair, including old memorabilia, such as pins and flags. Later, the kvutzah sifted through the archives and even found signatures written by their family and friends. Afterwards, the kvutzah travelled southwards to Kibbutz Cholit, where they are currently enjoying a nice dinner.

Yedid Update!
Hello!
Today, the Yedid kvutzah finished Seminar Tzofi, the group survival challenge seminar. During the seminar, many overcame challenges, such as fear of heights, and living in the woods. Their seminar finished with them rafting down the river in canoes that they built out of tubes and twine. Everyone was relieved to find the comfort of a normal shower, but still all feel proud of their accomplishments in the last few days.
Tomorrow, the kvutzah will have a day to relax, including a trip to a local water park and the ability to sleep in and rest. Next week, the yedid kvutzah will participate in a veida, a convention, with the world movement about pedagogy.

On We Go!
Hello,
Yedid has landed safely! The flights were mostly uneventful and allowed the kids to catch up on some much needed sleep. The Canadian kvutzah and the American kvutzah have united and started their journey to the north of Israel. Everyone is very excited for the upcoming weeks. For the next few days, the Yedid kvutzah will be out of phone contact, and will be participating in Seminar Tzofi, a nature and wilderness seminar with the European movement.
